While at Clinton DeWitt Park, Todd and his cute Havanese named Habibi, posed for a photo for this website.
Where did you get Habibi?
He's from a breeder upstate, near Niagra Falls. We saw his picture on PuppyFinder.com and we went up there to make sure he's a legit breeder. Made sure it wasn't a puppy mill. So we brought him home a couple weeks later.
Were you looking for a dog then?
Yeah. We decided to finally add a dog to our live. We did a lot of research and found out that the Havanese breed was a really great to have in the city. Mild-mannered, right size for a city dog, travel size. The breed is hypoallergenic, they don't shed. They have hair instead of fur. You have to maintain it, but it doesn't shed all over the house, which is a good thing.
What is it about his picture that you wanted to meet him?
Well obviously, he was simply cute.
What's he like? What's his personality like?
Very friendly, personable, mild-mannered, gets along with humans better than other dogs. He goes to every single human in the dog park and says hello.
What does his name mean?
Good question. Habibi means my friend or my love in Arabic. I used to live in Egypt for a few years. It's a little throwback to my days. It's perfect name for a dog like him.
He's a chocolate brown and white Havanese, which is hard to find. Most of them are all white, all single color, if it's a mix they are usually black and white. So that was another bonus.
What three words will you use to describe him?
Oh I hate that question. (He then lets out a chuckle). It oversimplifies. The biggest thing that I know about Habibi is that he's given us more than we've given him. He's been a major addition to our family. So there's something about that - that somehow wraps into an order too.
Habibi is definitely a perfect name for their Havanese habibi.
